Say hello to Michaella, Pure Freedom’s most recent addition to our team of educators! Michaella has been teaching and working with youth for years, but is super pumped to be sharing a message of whole-person health with thousands of students in Northeast Missouri. Born and raised in Kirksville, Michaella spent her whole pre-college education in the Kirksville school district and graduated from Truman State University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
I decided to work with Pure Freedom because empowering and equipping our teens to make healthy decisions regarding relationships and sex is an important skill they can carry with them all through life.
I like that we are building teens a toolbox of resources that helps them navigate through their decisions at such critical points in their lives. Not only do we teach about how to have healthy romantic relationships, but also we teach about how to have healthy friendships in general. I think that it is important for everyone in life to be able to navigate social relationships.
I am the first born child of two loving parents, and I have one younger brother named Zachary. My other brother (A.K.A. my dog) is my Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier named Bentley. In June of 2018, I got engaged to my best friend Edgar. Edgar is from Guatemala and we met working for the same organization there. We both love coming alongside individuals in need of a helping hand. We also love spending quality time with our friends around a good pizza that Edgar made. He is famous for his ‘pizza nights’. We are so excited to get married and start a family together.
Playing volleyball has always been a love of mine. Where there is volleyball is where I will be. volleyball has allowed me to continue old friendships and constantly make new ones. I also love traveling and experiencing other cultures. With friends and family, I like playing games requiring a lot of strategy. Another part of my life has been partnering with a non-profit in Guatemala that focuses on serving youth and doing community development projects. One of the greatest parts is getting to hike in and to communities in the beautiful mountains of Guatemala in order to help others.
In life, my goal is to strive to always humbly love and serve others in any way I possibly can. This plays out differently in all parts of my life. As a daughter, I love being able to serve my parents helping them in any way I can, since they have given me so much. I want to be a kind and loving sister for my brother. Someday, I hope to have a great marriage and family with my fiance Edgar. In my job here at Pure Freedom, I hope to be a source of encouragement for students to make healthy choices and build healthy relationships.
